Temperament and Attachment
Temperament refers to a stable set of traits that seems to be present from birth. It represents our characteristic way of dealing with situations. For instance, some people have a laid-back temperament whereas others are more uptight. Temperament can be modified somewhat by parenting strategies. It is important for parents to find a "goodness-of-fit" between the child's temperament and their parenting style.
Attachment is a close bond between a person and an "attachment object," which could be another person, an animal, or any other object such as a favorite blanket or toy. People can learn to be securely attached or have patterns of insecure attachment that may affect their relationships later in life.
